Joe and Caroline danced their first song to Death Cab for Cutie’s “I Will Follow You into the Dark.” At first it struck me as sort of odd – the lyrics are sweet, yet somewhat sad at the same time. But then I thought about it again. How incredible to have this love so powerful that you simply cannot, will not, live without one another no matter what. Pretty amazing, huh? And watching Caroline and Joe laugh, dance, and look at each other with so much love on their wedding day convinced me that perhaps their song choice was actually quite perfect because I really can’t picture either one of these individuals without the other. I could see it in the way Joe’s face lite up when Caroline walked down the aisle, giggling like a school girl and looking like she wanted to race down to Joe just to be near him. It was there when I caught the two of them in tears right after the ceremony ended, just staring at one another and laughing/crying at the mere fact that they were finally married. And it was clear when they danced that first dance to the perfect song and disappeared completely into one another and forgot that the world around them was moving and that people were even watching.
Held at Glen Echo Park, Caroline and Joe were married underneath the Cuddle Up Pavilion. I asked why it was called this and was delighted the answer was because it was where the Tilt-a-Whirl resided. Oh yes…I skipped a part here. Glen Echo Park used to be an amusement park back in 1900′s – today remnants of it’s glory days still exist, including the Cuddle Up and Bumper Car Pavilion (where the reception was held), but the only working ride is the beautiful carousel, which all of the guests were given tickets for to enjoy at this unqiue location for a wedding. Antique cupcake stands stood atop each dining table, boasting a variety of cupcake flavors from the talented Sarina from Chateau Gateau. Flavors included pumpkin chocolate chip, chocolate raspberry, coconut and peanut butter and chocolate. Delicious! Everything was splashed in reds and blues and guests danced the night away with the soft glow of the neon popcorn sign in the far distance.
I truly can’t imagine a more perfect day for this couple than what they planned. It was fun, colorful, playful and romantic – just like them.

This is by far my new favorite color palette for a wedding. So striking and bold.

When I first visited Glen Echo Park, I saw that many couples had inscribed their names on the old train car. I thought how perfect to do so the same for Joe and Caroline.

Caroline choose a tea length dress. It was fun, flirty and perfect for her.
Amazing boquet by Atelier Floral Design. Check out the buttons on the bottom! Such a great touch.

LOVE Joe’s outfit.
Joe’s son Matthew doned Converse sneakers and a pirate’s tie, in honor of Talk Like a Pirate Day.

How crazy excited does Caroline look?!?

My associate Kristi Odom nabbed this next one of Caroline during the ceremony. I love the emotion.

Married!

Caroline designed her own invitations. Wow. Can you please do mine when I get married?
This next one is also Kristi’s. She got a lot of great venue shots while dusk was settling in. You can check out more of her work here.

A little budding photographer on their hands. Everytime he saw me with my camera, he wanted to pick on up and take some of his own.

Congratulations Joe and Caroline!
