April 9, 2010 Love is.

When you are in a relationship, there are so many small ways to show your love.

On Wednesday, I met up with Kristin and Jeff at the Thomas Birkby House to do their venue walk-through.  We were talking, laughing and somehow the topic of name changes came up.  I asked Kristin if she was taking Jeff’s last name and she said Yes and that she was changing her middle name to her maiden name.  Jeff piped in and said that he was changing his name as well.  I looked at him and asked, “what do you mean?”  He told me that he is changing his middle name to Kristin’s maiden name so that way, they’ll both have the same middle and last name – he said that they were partners for life and he wanted to show Kristin what that meant to him.

I love couples like Kristin and Jeff because when I look at them, I’m reminded of the little, simpler things that mean so much in a relationship.  Just the way Jeff holds Kristin’s hand, or always opens the door for her.  The way he always sweetly asks for her opinion and usually, lets her have her way!  The fact that he understands what a big deal it is for her to change her last name and for him to make a gesture to show her how much that means to him…well, I’m just speechless.

The love Kristin and Jeff has is so captivating.  When they are around each other, they just light up.  They met a few years ago on….wait for it…Match.com.  Yup, that’s right!  They recapped the story to me, Jeff admitting that he went on quite a few more dates than Kristin did until they found each other!  They both said they knew the other one was perfect for them when they successful traveled to Italy (??? apologies Kristin and Jeff if I have the country wrong!) and didn’t end throwing the other one over the side of a cliff – although apparently there was debate over whether or not using a coffee shop’s restroom without buying something was kosher.

We met up a few weeks ago in the city near Eastern Market for their engagement session and for starters, can I just say how adorable these two are?  Seriously!!!  Soooo cute together!

We walked for about 6-8 blocks to find this infamous tree that Jeff had spotted on the drive into DC.  It turned out to be well worth it!

I love DC!  Even when you’re in the middle of the city, you can find places like this!
