I was thinking about this concept today as I was working on my huge project of updating my brand (more details coming soon!) and it occurred to me that it had been awhile since I’d really sat down and thought about my photography. I know…tortured artist coming out here. But seriously. I’d like to think that while I’m in the business of photographing life’s important moments, I’m also in some way inspiring something in people through my imagery.
So I decided I wanted to find out…what (if anything) does my photography inspire within other people?
A few years ago I did this exercise where I asked my close friends and family to come up with 3 words that described how they felt when they looked at my images. I think it’s time to do it again, but this time, I want to pose the question to the universe, i.e. the vast void that is the web and see what comes back to me.
So consider the question asked: What are 3 words that describe how you feel when you look at my photography?
(Fingers crossed that at least one person answers. I know I have blog stalkers out there!!! Now is the time to finally comment!)
I am a big fan :) so my 3 words are; passion, art(which included colors, lines and meanings)and genius :)oh man these r more than 3, so don’t count the ones in brackets.

Beautiful. Modern. Unique. I wish I could get married again so you could photograph my wedding! You did such an amazing job on Kristin’s wedding and pre-wedding photos!
maybe cheesy but just ‘really happy people’ or ‘celebration of life’ maybe its the subject partly but these pictures just excellently capture people’s happiness. That and the way the blue always pops.
Hmmm…..mine are moreso phrases, I guess? Natural Beauty, Natural Emotion, and colorful.

I’ve always admired your work. I’ve noticed that your photos tend to have boosted saturation and vignetting that makes the images really pop and focus in on the couple and their intimate moments. I also love that you include on tiny details that most people miss and of course, focusing in on kids by getting down to their level. I don’t use the word “lovely” very often, but your photos really are!

Fun/exciting/adventerous
Romantic and tender
Dreamlike, fantastic, and airy
Warm-hearted, tingly, evocative
Interested and curious
Vibrant, lively, animated*
Relaxed, color-focused, and amazing. I get the real sense that you want to capture the moment that is rather than a staged and forced-smile photo. By allowing the scene to unfold, you have encouraged the natural emotion of that present time to radiate from each photo. If I could use a fourth word, it would be mindful.
Vibrant.Emotional.Fun
Michelle! What a cool way to find some great ideas for your brand update. I really enjoyed looking through your photos again. The first word that literally jumped off the page and clobbered me over the head was ‘WHIMSICAL’. Next, I went back and looked at them all again, and ‘TIMELESS’ came to me. It’s really hard to only pick three, because I felt ‘inspired’, and ‘genuine’ really come out of your work as well…but the third and final word that I chose was ‘SENSUAL.’ Hope that helps ;)

I am looking forward to new things from you.. P.S. I love that picture of the little flower girl.. I think it is the only one I have never seen! Awesomeness.. This is a project every photographer should do one day! I like the idea of starting with friends and family, mostly because I am not 100% ready to hear all the technical stuff that I need to keep working on (like the strobes.. UGH)! :D Cheers lady!
How to describe into words? Unity, colorful and “that moment” something that is caputered and will always be remembered

Awe, Ambience, Moving. These images are the kind that put me in another world when I look at them. The way you are able to capture moments in such a beautiful location and add that dreamy ambience is truly stunning. I’d love to speak to you sometime. When I look at your BEAUTIFUL photos, it in some way makes me feel beautiful, and I love that! I am also very PROUD. Proud of you and all your amazing accomplishments! And lastly, I would have to say your photos make me feel INSPIRED. They inspire me to follow my dreams.
So many words come to mind as I view your work. It’s hard to pick just three, but here they are: Real, Jubilant, Tender.
Intimate, joyous, and this one applies to some but not all of your photos – epic. I’ve noticed that you always seem to capture at least one epic shot in each wedding – and I love it!

Beautiful images! Three words that instantly came to mind are: Magic. Moments. Memories. Cheesy? yes but in my opinion these M’s describe every image exactly and they also go with your Name! In fact, I’m saying it outloud as I type, “Magic, Moments and Memories… Michelle Lindsay Photography.” LOL ok, so that might’ve been my 3 cents instead of 2 but Good luck with the brand update. ;)

This is going to be long-winded and probably wont make a lot of sense but here goes… When I look at your photos I think of Peace– that sense of calm and contentment you can see in people’s eyes who truly love each other and everything is perfect and calm for that moment. Next vibrant–the colors and the movement of the people in them. And finally real because they are so alive and fun, the photos really capture the moments and feelings.
Delight, striking, and bliss are my three words!
