The art of visual storytelling is why I fell in love with photography. Over the years, I have had the privilege of telling many stories - tales of love, marriage, travel, new life and family dynamics, culminating in a visual collection that is this blog. I invite and encourage you to get lost in these stories and delve into this visual narrative of life!

Welcome

Ryan and Katie – Woodend Nature Society

10/13/09

October 3rd was a gorgeous fall day.  Rain was predicted all week, but when Saturday arrived, it was a bright blue sky and the sun made the temperature just warm enough to be comfortable outside without a jacket.  Standing among a grove of trees at Woodend Nature Society in Chevy Chase, Maryland, I watched from a distance as Katie started her walk down the longest aisle I’ve ever seen.  When I turned around to look at Ryan, his expression was priceless.  His eyes grew wide and while I’m not 100% certain, I’m pretty sure I saw him mouth the word “WOW” as he watched his best friend walk towards him.

Ryan and Katie met in college and were friends for a long time, each secretly harboring feelings for the other.  I believe it was Katie who finally said something and while it’s strange to imagine where this couple would be if neither one had ever said anything, they did, and so on that beautiful fall day Ryan stood waiting for his dream girl to finish her long walk down that aisle.

This was my first chance to photograph at Woodend Nature Society and I absolutely fell in love with the venue.  As I drove in, I saw an entire family of deer hanging around – how cool!   The grounds are also breathtaking at sunset and I truly couldn’t have imagined a more perfect place for Katie and Ryan to get married.  In fact, Katie told me it was the first and only place they looked.

The day was romantic and fun-filled.  Katie and Ryan, with the help of the amazing Aimee from A Dominick Events, kept everything simple and natural, just like the venue.  Bright fall orange bouquets complimented the bridesmaid’s purple dresses.  The guys wore navy suits.  Delicious appetizers like mini hamburgers (Ryan’s favorite food) were passed around during cocktail hour and dessert was vanilla and red velvet cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcake.

We started off the day at the Omni Shoreham, which is quite an amazing hotel in and of itself.  Katie’s Rosa Clara dress was beautiful and perfect.

Take a look.
