Anyone who tells you owning your own business is easy and all sorts of fun has probably never been a small business owner! While there are many incredible perks (ability to work from home in PJs, unlimited vacation days, setting your own salary and much more), there are also a lot of long work weeks/months without a day off, the constant worry about bringing business in, not to mention the day to day administrative tasks that seem never ending. All of it seems to pull your attention away from what you truly love doing, which for me, is photographing families, newborns, children and wedding couples.

In 2009, I opened my first “Studio,” a less than 100 sq ft space carved out of my one and only living room in my 2 bedroom rented apartment. I literally lived where I worked, but I had a vision of where I wanted my business to go and I knew that this was the way to get there.

As the years went by, the Studio got upgraded and moved locations a few more times. With each move, I learned something new, both about what I wanted in a photography Studio, and what my business needs were. While the specifics of my vision shifted with time, the ultimate goal remained ever constant, always in the back of my mind.

It has taken almost 8 years, 4 Studios and a lot of trials and tribulations along the way, but I am so excited to announce that Michelle Lindsay Photography will be moving to its permanent location this fall at The Shops at Crescent Place in downtown historic Leesburg. We have purchased a commercial unit and are building my ultimate dream photography Studio from scratch. I can’t wait to share the process and progress as this incredible dream becomes a reality!

For now, enjoy the 3D renditions of the new full-service photo and design studio that our amazing architect, O’Neil Architects, have put together for us!

Our viewing area for clients to see their photographs will be warm and inviting, much like a living room.

The Studio space will be separated from the viewing area with a cozy place for moms to sit and watch while I work my magic with the kiddos! The space I will be photographing in is a photographer’s DREAM with 3 front and 2 side floor to ceiling windows. I will have the ability to photograph both with natural light, which I love for the babies, and also artificial lighting for our more dramatic maternity and adult portrait sessions.

A cozy nook area will be dedicated for my clients to make themselves right at home while at the Studio. It will include a baby changing station, a rocking chair for nursing and a private changing room for outfit switches during the session!
