Believe it or not, the best time to book your newborn photographer is when you are still pregnant! Loudoun County newborn photographers book up months in advance. So while I know your to-do list is growing by the mile, don’t put off this task.
Photographing newborn babies is a unique artform. So much goes into crafting the right environment to keep your baby safe, happy, calm and sleepy. And whether you opt for a session at home or a Studio, you’ll want to aim for shortly after baby’s arrival. (Not sure which session type is right for you? Learn the differences between home and studio newborn photo sessions here.)
Our Loudoun County newborn photography studio recommends photographing within 7-12 days after birth. This allows a more relaxed session because babies tend to start cluster feeding around 14 days and become more alert and awake.
Timeline for scheduling newborn photographer
Since that window of photographing your brand new baby is so short, you should begin the process while you’re still pregnant. Our Loudoun County newborn photographer books up months in advance. Therefore, if you wait to reach out after baby has arrived, your photographer of choice may not be available.
First Trimester
Begin doing your research. For example, ask friends and family for recommendations. A personal referral goes a long way. Start a pinterest board to collect examples of style you like. Need a good starting place? Our instagram has tons of baby cuteness!
Second Trimester
Start reaching out to local newborn photographers. We recommend getting on a phone call with them to learn about their process, style, pricing and products available. Now is the time to officially reserve and book your session. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
Third Trimester
Plan your wardrobe and shop for outfits. Some of our favorite places to shop include Morning Lavender, Pink Blush and Amazon. And remember, you don’t have to spend a fortune to have something beautiful and flattering for your session.
BONUS TIP: Ask your photographer if they have a wardrobe you can use. Many newborn photographers, including our Loudoun County Studio, offers this complimentary to moms.
Life gets busy and it can be easy to put off scheduling your newborn photographer. Yet it’s really best not to wait much past your 2nd trimester. Reserving your photoshoot early ensures you get the photographer of your choice and have plenty of time to plan outfits. You will 100% feel much more relaxed coming home from the hospital knowing that everything is already scheduled so you can focus on your brand new baby!
