Documenting a newborn’s first few days of life is such an awesome responsibility and I was incredibly thrilled to have the honor of capturing my friend and colleague’s pregnancy and newborn portraits of her first baby.  When you client is super creative themselves, it forces you to bring a new level to the game. I wanted to find a way to capture her artistic vibe in the portraiture while ultimately creating a unique display that was reflective of her personality and showcased her as both a creative and her new title, Mom.

I knew that I wanted to pay homage to the previous maternity photos we had captured and keep in theme that would best reflect my friend and client.  We used flowing tulle in the maternity photos so I continued that theme in the newborn session, where it took about fifty frames to capture the one shown above.  Baby Bianca was so patient!

I always encourage Moms to bring personal items to my studio in Leesburg that will make the photos more meaningful to them.  Bianca looks precious in this sweet hat that mom bought for her.

Newborns are adorable to photograph on their own, however, I always encourage both parents to participate in our maternity and newborn sessions as these images become their first family portraits together.
